Last updated June 15, 2026

When uploading a pattern there's a bunch of metadata that is required to be attached to the listing. The majority of this is required, the following table explains each element and provides how to handle unknown information.

InformationAboutHow to handle Unknown value
NameThe title, ID or name of the pattern from the maker. On old files, use the File Name if no other name is available. On newly digitized patterns, use the topic of the pattern as the name.
DescriptionAny extra information to include with this pattern, NO INSTRUCTIONS. This could be a small blurb about why they made the pattern, a small story, whatever, but no instructions.Empty
InstructionsAll the information regarding how to make, assemble or extra work for parts on the pattern.Empty
Design DateDD/MM/YYYY of when the pattern was created or the best estimate of it. Copyright dates can be used in leu of known dates. If you do not have a Day and/or Month use 01 to fill the spaces. Keep the year accurate. If the source file does not contain any date information when opened, use the date the file was created by looking at the file metadata for old files. If the pattern was just digitized making file metadata useless and/or no date can be found at all use 01/01/1901

Pattern Key BuilderDefine the pattern key for this pattern, every line, fill, hanging points, wire work, overlay and other element on the pattern MUST be defined here. People with the permission to create a Key Collection can speed this up by creating and saving a copy of their key they use every time. Then selecting the collection from the drop down and editing if needed. Otherwise every element needs to be set individually at upload time. DO NOT APPLY ITEMS THAT ARE NOT ON THE PATTERN.You made it, you best know what mess you made. Do not leave empty.
